Larks rally past El Dorado for 7th straight win

EL DORADO, Kan. – The Hays Larks hit three home runs in the final two innings to rally past El Dorado 7-4 Wednesday night at McDaonald Stadium to run their winning streak to seven games.

Colin Simpson hit a two-out, two-run pinch hit blast in the top of the eighth inning to put Hays up 4-3. Alex Weiss followed with a solo shot to make it 5-3. Jonathan Soberanes then added a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to extend the lead.

After starter Matt Fish gave up three runs on four hits in three innings in his debut, the Larks bullpen held the Broncos to one unearned run over the final six innings. Peyton Battenfield (1-1) struck out five over four innings for the win. Tyler Starks worked a perfect ninth, striking out two for his third save.

The Larks (10-4, 10-3 Jayhawk League) remain a game back of Liberal in the Jayhawk League standings. They try for the series sweep Thursday night before returning home for three with Derby on Friday.
