Larks can’t overcome early deficit in loss to El Dorado

EL DORADO, Kan. – The El Dorado Broncos raced out to a 9-0 lead after two innings then held off the Hays Larks the rest of the night for a 16-9 victory Thursday night in McDonald Stadium, ending the Larks seven-game win streak.

The Broncos (7-10, 7-10 Jayhawk League) took advantage of a passed ball and two-out error to score three runs in the first inning. They would add six in the second.

The Larks (10-5, 10-4 Jayhawk League) scored five in the third and pull as close as 9-7 before the Broncos scored four in the seventh to put the game away.

Jake Norton (0-1) allowed nine runs on six hits over 1 2/3 innings and takes the loss.

Colin Simpson and Alex Weiss both homered. Weiss hit a two-run shot in the third to make it 9-5 and Simpson a solo homer in the fifth to make the score 9-7.

The Larks fall two games back of Liberal in the Jayhawk League. The Bee Jays won their 10th straight beating Oklahoma City 2-1. Derby beat Great Bend 11-3 and is also two back. The Larks host the Twins for three starting Friday night with free admission courtesy of Nex-Tech Wireless. Saturday night is Larkstoberfest and Old Timers Night and Sunday is Stand Up To Cancer Night.
