Larks rally for win over Derby

The Hays Larks scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and two more in the eighth inning and rallied to be the Derby Twins 4-2 Friday at Larks Park.

Derby took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning scoring two runs on back-to-back RBI singles. Those two runs would be the only runs allowed by starter Walter Pennington who did not factor into the decision for the Larks but turned in seven strong innings. He allowed the two runs on 10 hits and struck out five over seven innings.

Hays loaded the bases in their half of the seventh and with two down Mikey Gangwish plated two with a RBI single to tie the game.

In their half of the eighth Hays tacked on two more runs with a sacrifice fly by Clayton Rasbeary that gave the Larks the lead and then Spencer Packard followed that with a RBI single to put Hays up 4-2.

Kent Hasler earned the win in relief for the Larks allowing just one hit in an inning of relief and Tyler Starks earned his fourth save of the season with a perfect ninth.

The Larks are 11-5 overall and 11-4 in the Jayhawk League. Game two of the series between the Hays and Derby is Saturday night at Larks Park.
