SCOTT COUNTY – Officials with Wheatland Electric indicated they have had reports in the Scott City area of local businesses receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be with Wheatland Electric, threatening to disconnect service if a cash payment is not received immediately, according to the company’s social media page.

The caller leaves a number (1-866-377-5291 extension 1) and instructs the person to call and talk to Rachel.

When the number is called, a person answers the call by saying “Disconnect location” and Rachel instructs them to take a large amount of cash to Casey’s to pay the bill.

Wheatland reminded customers they will never conduct business in this manner. Please, do not call the number, do not take money to Casey’s and please do report it to Wheatland and/or the police.
