‘One Soldier’s Story’ by Bob Dole is focus of library discussion

HPL

Dr. Kevin Rabas of Emporia State University will lead a discussion of “One Soldier’s Story” by Bob Dole at 6:30 pm on July 10. The event will be held in the Schmidt Gallery at the Hays Public Library, 1205 Main St.

This is the final book in a three-part series entitled “Literature with Kansas Connections” series. Long before he was a United States senator, Bob Dole was first a boy growing up in Russell, Kansas. Although Soldier’s Story focuses on his wartime years with a gripping account of the years he spent recovering from his wounds, themes of family and community are a vital part of the story

The Talk About Literature in Kansas (TALK) book discussion series is provided by the Kansas Humanities Council (KHC), a nonprofit cultural organization with over 40 years of experience promoting understanding of the history and ideas that shape our lives and build community. Kevin J. Rabas is an associate professor of English at Emporia State University, where he co-directs the Creative Writing Program. He received his Ph.D. in English from the University of Kansas. Rabas joined the KHC TALK program as a discussion leader in 2008.
