The Ellis County Commission will discuss lot size in the three-mile zone at Monday’s commission meeting.
At a joint meeting with the Hays City Commission in April, the two commissions discussed the size of lots within the extraterritorial jurisdiction – three-mile zone – and agreed that a large lot would be defined as five acres.
According to his memo to the commission, Ellis County Administrator Phillip Smith-Hanes said staff has presented the City Planning Commission with the idea of large lots. He said, at that time, the Hays Board of Realtors suggested a minimum lot size of two acres.
The commission will discuss their preference in the matter at Monday’s meeting.
The commission will also vote for the Kansas Representative to the National Association of Counties Board and select a voting delegate for the Kansas Association of Counties annual conference.
Monday’s commission meeting is set for 5 p.m. at the Ellis County Administrative Center.
