Kansas collects more in taxes than expected in June

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas says it collected $72 million more in taxes than anticipated in June.

The Department of Revenue reported Monday that the state took in $609 million in taxes last month. That’s 13.5 percent more than the official projection of $537 million.

It was the last month of the state’s 2017 fiscal year. Tax collections for the 12-month period exceeded $5.8 billion. Through May, tax collections had been in line with estimates.

Revenue Secretary Sam Williams said unemployment is low and wages appear to have grown.

Lawmakers had expected to end the 2017 fiscal year with cash reserves of $50 million after they approved internal borrowing and some other moves to close a projected budget shortfall.

Legislators increased income taxes to help balance the budget for fiscal 2018 and 2019.

Ellis County Commission to discuss lot size in three-mile zone

By JONATHAN ZWEYGARDT
Hays Post

The Ellis County Commission will discuss lot size in the three-mile zone at Monday’s commission meeting.

At a joint meeting with the Hays City Commission in April, the two commissions discussed the size of lots within the extraterritorial jurisdiction – three-mile zone – and agreed that a large lot would be defined as five acres.

According to his memo to the commission, Ellis County Administrator Phillip Smith-Hanes said staff has presented the City Planning Commission with the idea of large lots. He said, at that time, the Hays Board of Realtors suggested a minimum lot size of two acres.

The commission will discuss their preference in the matter at Monday’s meeting.

The commission will also vote for the Kansas Representative to the National Association of Counties Board and select a voting delegate for the Kansas Association of Counties annual conference.

Monday’s commission meeting is set for 5 p.m. at the Ellis County Administrative Center.

He traveled the United States to purchase quality cattle to bring back to Greeley County to improve his herd. By selling progeny to others, he also tried to improve the herds of neighbors and friends.

Stanley is preceded in death by his parents, Art & Bessie, sisters, Marian and Ardris, and his brother Valdean.

In June of 1952, Stanley married Ramona Adkinson in Brownell Kansas. This union was blessed with three boys; Clint and Lisa Pearson, Scott City, Travis and Patricia Pearson, Wichita, and Lance Pearson, Lawrence.
