March to Main to welcome Fort Hays State students home

DHDC

Downtown Hays Development Corporation invites students, faculty and staff to march downtown for the newly named “March to Main” event on Thursday. Everyone is welcome from Fort Hays State University, NCK Technical College and Hays Academy of Hair Design.

Since 2012 the event has been known as Core2Campus. The goal has always been to welcome back the students, faculty and staff to Hays. It also introduces the incoming freshmen class to their new home and the array of unique shopping, dining, art and entertainment Downtown Hays has to offer. That goal will not change with the new name.

“The name of the event was changed for the sole purpose of clearly defining what the event is,” Sara Bloom Executive Director of DHDC said. “The students literally march from the FHSU quad to Main street and the new name clearly states that. We invite all new and existing students and faculty to come enjoy free food, live entertainment and our amazing downtown.”

As participants visit over 30 participating businesses, they will try to blackout bingo cards to earn them chances to win over $3,000 in prizes including electronics, beauty products, gift cards and more. The event will also feature live music from the band “Purair” and a free meal provided by Gella’s Diner and Lb. Brewing Co.

The event is hosted by DHDC but would not be possible without the support of partners and sponsors. Members of the Hays Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, FHSU, and NCK Tech all sit on the event committee to ensure a successful event as well as donate fiscally. Major sponsors also include Hays Academy of Hair Design, G&L Tire and Automotive, Main Street Gym and Fitness, and Taco Shop.

Due to the nature of the event, several downtown Hays streets will close from noon to 8pm. The streets closed to traffic include:

• Main Street from Eighth to 12th • 10th Street from Fort to Oak
• Ninth Street from Fort to Oak
• 11th Street from Fort to Oak

The public is encouraged to be a part of the event by enjoying late night shopping hours at the participating businesses. For more information, visit www.DowntownHays.com or call (785) 621-4171.
