Monarch volleyball opens pool play 2-0 at MCL Tournament

WAKEENEY, Kan. – The third-ranked TMP-Marian volleyball team opened pool play 2-0 at the Mid-Continent League Tournament Thursday. The Monarchs, who are the No. 1 seed, swept Oakley (25-16, 25-11) then beat Phillipsburg in three (22-25, 25-21, 25-12) to move to 32-1 on the season.

Kayla Vitztum led the Monarchs with 29 kills, Jillian Lowe had 24 digs and Bailey Lacy four blocks.

Plainville, who’s ranked fourth in 2A and the two-seed, swept Ellis (25-23, 25-9) then lost to host Trego in three (22-25, 25-21, 15-25) and are now 26-3 on the season.

The Golden Eagles also swept Hill City.

The tournament continues with pool play Saturday morning.
