Police investigate more counterfeit cash in Kansas

counterfeit money-photo Lyon County Sheriff

SEWARD COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating more counterfeit cash.

Police have taken several reports of counterfeit money from local businesses in Liberal this month. The counterfeit money has been in various denominations with various serial numbers. Please take note of the following tips to spot counterfeit money.  The police department released information to assist in identifying counterfeit money.
Color shifting ink
The first thing to do is to look at the bottom right corner and check whether the color shifts when you tilt it. By the “20” on a $20 bill, the color is copper, but when you tilt it, the color changes to green(ish). On the new $100 bills, the color change from copper to green happens on the liberty bell symbol.

Red and blue threads
On an authentic bill, there are threads woven in and out of the note. Most counterfeiters try to achieve this look by printing red and blue threads on the surface of the note. If you look closely at their work, you will see that the threads are on the surface.

Watermark
This is usually a copy of the portrait on the note. The watermark can only be seen when you hold the note up against the light. The watermark should be on the right side of the bill and should be an exact replica of the portrait on the note. If there is no watermark when you hold up the note against the light, then it is definitely counterfeited.

Security Thread
The security strip runs vertically on the note and can be seen when held up against a light. You won’t find this feature on a counterfeit bill.

Compare to a valid note
Compare the notes and make sure that everything is the same, such as the font used to write the serial number, the face on the note, the color, paper, etc. Make sure that the money you are comparing it with is of the same denomination.

Norton 57, TMP 15

NORTON, Kan.-An early TMP interception turned in to a quick Norton touchdown and things went south from there for TMP in what ended up being their season finale. Norton would get a field goal on their next possession and held a 9-0 lead. The Monarchs would get on the board late in the first quarter on a 27 yard Jace Rueschhoff field goal but Norton would answer. Jace Ruder would go 75 yards into the end zone to put the Bluejays on top 17-3 after the first quarter.

Norton would put the only points on the board in the second quarter and led 24-3 at the break. To make matters worse for TMP star quarterback David McFarland was knocked out of the game late in the first half. Norton outscored TMP 33-12 in the second half and picked up the 57-15 victory.

TMP finishes their season at 3-6. Norton improves to 7-2 and will move on to the 3A Playoffs next week.

FHSU men’s soccer defeats Upper Iowa

HAYS, Kan. – The Fort Hays State men’s soccer team outlasted bitter conditions as they defeated the Upper Iowa peacocks 5-2 on Thursday evening. The Tigers improved to 9-5-2 overall and 6-1 in MIAA play as the Peacocks dipped to 5-9 on the year and 0-6 in conference play.

It didn’t take long for the Tigers to get on the board as Fort Hays State utilized the brisk wind behind their backs and junior Tobias Patino connected on a pass to Derick Gonzalez who then set up Abdoulaye Cisse to score the first goal of the game in the ninth minute. Cisse scored his eighth goal of the season and Gonzalez kept his team record streak of consecutive matches tallying a point alive with his 12th assist on the year.

The Tigers went into halftime with a little help from the Peacocks as they scored an own goal in the 45th minute to push the Tiger lead to 2-0. With the wind advantage, the Tigers were able to get 11 shots and five shots on goal in the first period.

The Peacocks were determined to get on the board out of the break with the wind at their backs and got what they ordered. Upper Iowa scored their first goal of the match in the 50th minute as Efrain Gonzalez, Jr set up Italo Martins with a through ball that Martins lobbed over the head of Michael Yantz and found the back of the net to cut the Tiger lead in half, 2-1.

After a sequence of four straight shots from Brian Ness, Benji Granillo, Raul Fierro and Granillo again, Gonzalez was able to sneak one past the keeper for his team-leading ninth goal of the season on the rebound from Granillo’s blocked shot to give the Tigers the 3-1 advantage in the 61st minute. The Peacocks were able to find a hole in the Tiger defense to cut into the lead once again roughly two minutes later on a flick off of a corner kick delivery from Ryan Crabtree with Tate Lofdahl scoring his first goal of the season.

The Tigers struck again in the 72nd minute of the match when Nathan De La Hoya, Gonzalez and Ness dribbled the ball between each other in the box and Ness took advantage and delivered a strike in the back left corner of the net doubling the Tigers lead to 4-2. Ness picked up his second goal of the season and Gonzalez added another assist to his increase his season total to 13 and now owning the season record for most assists in year in program history.

FHSU was not done on this blustery fall night as Fierro earned his seventh score of the year on a blocked shot attempt from Luis Mendez that beat keeper Connor Rortvedt and gave the Tigers the 5-2 lead in the 88th minute.

Yantz earned the victory in goal for the Tigers tonight as he improved his overall record to 7-4-2 on the season. Fort Hays State outshot Upper Iowa 27 to 6 in the match, with a 16-5 advantage of shots on frame.

The Tigers are back in action on Sunday (Oct. 29) as they host the Lindenwood Lions for at least a share of the conference title with a win. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

EPA: Farms must notify of hazardous substances released to air from animal wastes

EPA

WASHINGTON — Today, EPA is releasing guidance to assist farmers in reporting air releases of hazardous substances from animal waste at farms. EPA is making this information available to provide time for farmers to review and prepare for the reporting deadline, currently set for November 15, 2017

“EPA is working diligently to address undue regulatory burden on American farmers,” said Administrator Scott Pruitt. “While we continue to examine our options for reporting requirements for emissions from animal waste, EPA’s guidance is designed to help farmers comply with the current requirements.”

On December 18, 2008, EPA published a final rule that exempted farms from reporting air releases of hazardous substances from animal waste. On April 11, 2017, the DC Circuit Court vacated this final rule. In response to a request from EPA, the DC Circuit Court extended the date by which farms must begin reporting these releases to November 15, 2017. Unless the court further delays this date, all farms (including those previously exempted) that have releases of hazardous substances to air from animal wastes equal to or greater than the reportable quantities for those hazardous substances within any 24-hour period must provide notification of such releases.

The EPA guidance information includes links to resources that farmers can use to calculate emissions tailored to specific species of livestock. To view EPA’s guidance and Frequently Asked Questions on reporting air emissions from animal waste: https://www.epa.gov/newsreleases/epa-releases-guidance-reporting-air-emissions-hazardous-substances-animal-waste-farms

EPA will revise this guidance, as necessary, to reflect additional information to assist farm owners and operators to meet reporting obligations. Interested parties may submit comments or suggestions by November 24, 2017.

Kan. man accused of criminal threat against woman, daughter

Reinbold

SALINE COUNTY —  Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man after a pair of separate alleged domestic disturbances.

A female acquaintance of Reinbold told police that she was smoking on her front porch in the 800 block of Cedar at around 4 a.m. Monday when she heard 44-year-old Eric Reinbold yelling from the backyard, according to Police Capt. Paul Forrester.

When she tried to go inside, Reinbold stuck his foot in the door before she could shut it.

The woman said she started walking into the living room when Reinbold allegedly threw a flashlight at her, striking her in the back of the head. It left a laceration on the back of the victim’s head.

The woman’s 17-year-old daughter then attempted to get Reinbold to leave the residence. Police say that is when he threatened to get a gun and “take care of you,” according to Forrester.

Reinbold left before police arrived, crashing his vehicle into a metal swing in the backyard.

Just before 4p.m. Wednesday, officers were sent to the same residence after the woman, accompanied by a male acquaintance, returned to gather some belongs and found Reinbold asleep in a bedroom.

A verbal dispute erupted and Reinbold allegedly threatened to put a bullet in the head of the 40-year-old man from Solomon. He again fled before police arrived, this time on foot.

Officers caught up to Reinbold in the 800 block of Spruce in Salina. They arrested him and booked into the Saline County Jail for domestic aggravated battery, two counts of criminal threat, battery, damage to property, driving while suspended and additional requested charges.
