The season’s first snow fell on Halloween in Hays, dropping an official 1.3 inches of the white stuff, as measured at the K-State Agricultural Research Center south of town.

After an overnight temperature Monday of 26 degrees, the wet snow moved in and kept coming down until early afternoon. The daytime high Tuesday, Oct. 31, eventually reached 42 degrees as the sun came out and began melting much of the snow. Trick or treaters had to deal with some leftover snow as Tuesday’s overnight low dropped below freezing to 31 degrees.

The snowfall yield 0.15 inches of moisture. Year-to-date Hays has received 27.97 inches of moisture.
