After more than a week of suspense, the Hays City Commission election finally was decided at a special meeting Thursday.
After counting provisional ballots and write-ins, the Ellis County Commission finalized the canvas of the results, naming Chris Dinkel the winner.
Incumbents Shaun Musil (3,247 votes) and Sandy Jacobs (2,750 votes) also were elected to the Hays City Commission, but the third seat on the ballot between Dinkel and Dustin Roths was too close to call. The final tally showed Dinkel won the election 1,825 votes to 1,806 votes.
