BARTON COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating accidental shootings and offering some advice to hunters.

Over the past week, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and sheriff’s deputies have investigated two accidental shootings that occurred while people were hunting, according to a media release from Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir.

Both of the victims received minor wounds resulting from birdshot.

The Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone to please observe safe hunting practices. Know what is beyond your target. Do not shoot through tree rows and shelter belts if people are on the other side.  Be mindful that some of the pellets from a shotgun round will go past your target.

The sheriff’s department released no additional details Thursday.
