When the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) chose Kansas Archbishop Joseph Naumann, Kansas City, to head up the USCCB’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities Nov. 14, it was the first time in 40 years they picked a Bishop instead of a Cardinal. (The position is currently held by Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York.)
In congratulating Archbishop Naumann, Kansans For Life (KFL) Executive Director Mary Kay Culp alluded to the reason why when she said: “In our not so humble opinion, Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas is without a doubt the best possible choice for the job, not just in the U.S., but throughout the world.”
Mary Kay, once president of Missouri Right to Life (MRL), remembers “Father Naumann” attending MRL conventions 20 years ago when he headed up pro-life activities for the diocese of St. Louis.
Indeed, as stated by National Right to Life president Carol Tobias, “…Archbishop Joseph Naumann has long been a friend to the right-to-life movement, and to National Right to Life (NRLC), and has been an outspoken pro-life leader in the public square.”
Over the years, Archbishop Naumann has been a featured speaker at the National Right to Life Committee’s annual convention, and will do so again this coming summer when Kansans for Life hosts NRLC’s first-ever national convention in Kansas, June 28, 29, and 30 in Overland Park. (For details about the event’s 60+ workshops, etc., and to make reservations, see www.nrlconvention.com after January 5th.)
