Duane McGee

DODGE CITY — Richard ‘Duane’ McGee, 76, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2017 at Select Specialty Hospital in Wichita.

He was born on Aug. 22, 1941 in Spearville, the son of Virgil and Arline (Herman) McGee. Duane spent his childhood in Dodge City and attended Sacred Heart Grade School. He belonged to Boy Scout Troop 162 where he earned his Eagle Scout. He also graduated from St. Mary of the Plains High School and then graduated from St. Mary of the Plains College with a degree in chemistry and mathematics. He studied for his master’s degree at Emporia State in physical science. On April 27, 1963 he married Patty Reinert from Ensign, in Dodge City, at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Duane taught at Ensign High School for 16 years and Cimarron High School for 14 years. He taught chemistry, physics, computers, analytical geometry and various other math and science classes. He enlightened countless students lives in the maths and sciences. He retired after 30 years of teaching and was currently employed at Dodge City Concrete.

Duane was a dedicated family man with four children and eight grandchildren who were always tickled to get a text or video from grandpa! He had lots of friends he enjoyed. Duane loved to garden and was a wheat and milo farmer for 55 years. Duane was also an avid golfer and was always happy when he got a hole in one.

Duane is survived by his loving wife, Patty of the home; three daughters and one son, Michelle Blubaugh and husband Patrick of Inyokern, California; Cammy Uehling and husband Brennan of Hays; Michael McGee and wife Chankrusna of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida and Christa Roy and husband Dave of Dodge City. Grandchildren are Austin, Audry, and Adison of California; Blake, Morgan and Jenna of Hays; and Dylan and Brandon of Dodge City. He is also survived by four sisters and one brother, Doris Gleckler and husband Ralph of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Mary Harper and husband Bob of Lincoln, Neb.; Lee McGee and husband Carlos Cardosa of Bend, Ore.; Kevin McGee and wife Kim of Tucson, Ariz., and Barbara Zuzelski and husband Paul (Z) of Syracuse, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Vigil service will be at 7 pm Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 901 Central Ave., Dodge City. Please join us to celebrate the life of Duane at 10 am Saturday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City, with Bishop Ronald M. Gilmore and Fr. Wesley Schawe presiding.

Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City. A luncheon will be at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe following burial. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Friday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.

The family suggests memorials to the Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund or the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe both in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.
