Beula Bretton Hubbell Wilson

Beula Bretton Hubbell Wilson passed away on Dec. 26, 2017.  Beula was born on Dec. 10, 1926, in Rural Gove County.   She was the daughter of Earl Sr. and Hazel (Hannaford) Bretton.

She attended Pleasant Valley School District, southeast of Orion in Gove County. In 1945 she graduated from Vona High School, Vona, Colo.

On Dec. 13, 1945, she was united in marriage to Harold Hubbell. Harold was in the service and was deployed to Tacoma, Wash.  Their first daughter, Velva L. Hubbell, was born in Tacoma.  After his deployment, they moved back to Vona, where their other two daughters Pamela and Lois Barbara Hubbell were born. As a family, they moved to Coffeeville, Kan., and then in 1959 moved back to Gove, Kan.

In 1962, Beula married Max Wilson of Gove, where they called home with their three daughters. In 1970, granddaughters Michelle and Marsha Maurath came to live with them.   Beula lived in Gove until 2016 where she moved to Salina, Kan., and resided at Presbyterian Manor until her death.

She worked and lived in the city of Gove. She was employed at the Courthouse in Gove, then ran the Gove Café.  Beula went on to work at the Gove County Extension Office and then retired from the ASCS office in 1989.

Her favorite pastimes were spending time at the lake with family and friends. She loved to garden and grow peonies.  Beula was a Girl Scout leader while in Coffeeville, Kan. She was very involved with the NCHA, having held many offices. Beula and Max enjoyed traveling to different events for their children, grandkids and great-grandkids. They enjoyed going to many dances.

Beula was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, mom and grandma. She will be dearly missed by many friends and family.  Until we meet again. Love always.

Beula is survived daughters Pamela Reves (Rich) of Greensburg, Lois Barbara Werner of Gove, Michelle Carey (Steve) of Salina, Marsha Berg (Danny) of Salina, five grandchildren, Denita Weber, Rodney Weber, Jay Werner, Chris Werner, and James Reves; 14 great-grandchildren, Ashley Carey, Kory Ochs, Pierce Carey, Madison Werner, Storm Werner, Lindsay Berg, Koby Werner, McKayla Berg, Dylan Werner, Derek Berg, Marley Green, Zackary Green, Shaun Weber and Brandon Carr.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband Max Wilson; brother Earl Bretton Jr.; sister Earlene Steerman; daughter Velva Matlack; son-in-law Stan Matlack; grandson Stephen Werner; step-granddaughter Angela Matlack Benton; step-grandson Troy Matlack; great-grandaughter Allyson Berg.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at Gove Community Bible Church, Gove. Burial will be in the Gove Cemetery, Gove. There will be no public visitation.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Gove Community Bible Church and Salina Presbyterian Manor. Donations to the church may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 S. Main, Quinter, KS  67752.
