Part of the Centennial Towers apartments in the 2500 block of Sherman in Hays was evacuated today just before noon for a food fire.

Burnt food in an apartment on the fourth floor caused thick smoke in the building, according to scanner traffic.

Those people who were evacuated were allowed to quickly reenter the building and allowed to wait in the cafeteria while the firefighters ventilated the upstairs apartment.

One person refused transport to the hospital.
