TMP 58, Southeast of Saline 52
MINNEAPOLIS, Kan.-It was a 32 minute battle at the Minneapolis 3A Sub-State as TMP picked up the 58-52 victory over Southeast of Saline. The Monarchs never trailed in the game and played a back and forth first quarter. TMP led by three at three different points in the the quarter but led only 11-10 after one quarter of play.
The Monarchs turned up the heat in the second quarter and built a double digit lead, 23-12, late in the quarter. The Trojans would score the final four points of the half to cut the TMP lead to 23-16 at the half. TMP would immediately build their lead to 15 points early in the third quarter. Southeast would score the next nine points and the lead would stay in single digits the rest of the way.
The Trojans scored the first three points of the fourth quarter to make it a one possession game at 38-36. TMP answered the Southeast surge with an 11-4 run to lead 49-40 with just over four minutes to play. The Monarchs hit the majority of their free throws down the stretch and picked up the six point victory.
Nick Montgomery and Hunter White led Southeast of Saline with 19 points each. The Trojans finished their season at 11-10. Michael Lager three Monarchs in double figures with 13 points. Creighton Renz and Tate Garcia both scored 10 points. TMP improves to 16-5 on the year and will face the winner of Beloit and Ellsworth in the sub-state championship on Saturday in Minneapolis.
