KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the first time in her Tiger career, senior Yessenia Gonzales has been named the MIAA Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week after setting a new personal record. Gonzales received her honor from the conference office on Tuesday (Sept. 25).
Over the weekend, Gonzales and her fellow Tigers competed in the Chile Pepper Festival hosted by the University of Arkansas. Gonzales achieved her new PR at the meet as she ran her fastest 5K time of her collegiate career at 18:05. This mark boosted Gonzales to a 29th overall finish among the other runners, while finishing in seventh among NCAA Division II competition in the race.
Gonzales and the rest of the FHSU team will travel to Lawrence this Saturday (Sept. 29) to partake in the Rim Rock Farm Collegiate Classic hosted by the University of Kansas.
