Ardis Ilene (Kaup) Woods

Ardis Ilene (Kaup) Woods passed away April 3, 2019 at Smith County Memorial Hospital.

Ardis was born September 4,1930 at home to Roy and Mabel Kaup. She was the youngest of 4 children. She attended Crystal Plains elementary school and Smith Center High School, graduating in 1948. September 4, 1948 Ardis married Billy J Woods at the First United Methodist Church in Smith Center. They celebrated 63 years of marriage. Bill was in the Army and stationed in Colorado where they lived for a short time. When Bill’s Army enlistment ended, he and Ardis moved back to Smith County to farm. They started a family and had 5 children Dianna, Dennis, William, Debra and Roy.

After a few years, they moved to the Bellaire area. Ardis joined an extension unit in Lebanon and it was from this group that friends were formed that played cards together for many years. Ardis and Bill then moved to Smith Center. Ardis started working out of the home at this time. She held a variety of jobs and ended up retiring from working at the Courthouse during assessing season. Ardis was baptized in the First Christian Church in Smith Center in 1970. She helped with the youth group and funeral meals. She had a love of sewing and made quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She embroidered many quilts, pillowcases and towels for family. She loved playing cards, attending or hosting family gatherings, watching sports on tv, watching game shows, playing search a word, talking to friends and family on the phone and receiving cards. Every Saturday night ended with Molly B polka party.

Ardis was preceded in death by husband Billy J, son Dennis, great grandson Kyle, her parents, her siblings and spouses Roberta (Ted) Wilson, Raymond (Jeri) Kaup, Bob (Virginia) Kaup, her in-laws JW and Netta Woods, Bob Woods, Harry Woods and Edgar Woods.

Survivors are children; Dianna (James) Grauerholz of Wichita , William (Le’Ann) Woods of Wichita, Debra (Bryan) Tillett of Smith Center and Roy (Michele) Woods of McPherson. Grandchildren; James Robert (Jeanne) Grauerholz of Wichita, Julie (Tony) Schaar of Wichita, and Michael Grauerholz of Wichita, Erica (Scott) Campbell of Wichita, Austin Woods of Wichita, Jessica (Brandon) Berry of Marienthal, Sara (Tyler) Darnell of Manhattan, Mallory (Tom) Colwell of Wamego, Nicole(Brett) Ferrell of Lenexa, Great grandchildren; Jason (Mindy); Chad (Kameron), Sean, and Tyler Grauerholz; Laura, Sarah, and Nathan Schaar; Chayston and Preslie Berry; Brennen, Jackson, and Kinsley Darnell; Case Colwell; Kylie, Grace, and Isla Campbell; Remi Ferrell. Great great grandchildren Charlee and Harlow Grauerholz.
