Late Liberal run ends Larks 12-game win streak

LIBERAL – The Liberal Bee Jays scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error in the eighth inning and beat the Hays Larks 5-4 to snap Hays’ 12-game winning streak Monday night at Brent Gould Field.

The Larks scored runs in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead but the Bee Jays answered with four in the fourth.

Hernan Yanez two-out single scored George Southerland with the tying run in the sixth.

Drake Angeron, Justin Lee and Southerland all drove in runs.

Rustin Hays (1-1) allowed the one unearned run on one hit in 2 2/3 innings of relief and takes the loss after starter Christian Pearcy gave up four runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

The Larks are now 13-2 overall and 4-1 in the KCLB Jayhawk West Division. Liberal improves to 10-4 and 1-0 in the KCLB Jayhawk West.

Game two of the four-game series is Tuesday night.
