GREAT BEND – Brady Kreutzer’s two-out single scored Palmer Hutchison with the go-ahead run in the seventh inning then Trey Riggs worked around a two-out walk in the bottom of the inning to lead the Hays Eagles Senior American Legion to 6-5 win and doubleheader sweep of Great Bend Tuesday night at the Great Bend Sports Complex.
Riggs drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double in the third which put the Eagles up 4-1. He pitched the final 4 2/3 innings in relief and improved to 3-2 with the win.
The Eagles won the first game 11-2. Palmer Hutchison allowed one earned run over seven innings with eight strikeouts for the complete game victory. Cody Petersen went 4-for-4. He along with Trey Riggs and Brock Lummus all homered. Riggs and Lummus both drove in three runs.
The Eagles improve to 17-5. They host Abilene in a doubleheader at 5 p.m. Thursday at Larks Park.
