HAYS – Matt Cavanagh’s two-out single in the bottom of the ninth scored Jerrod Belbin with the winning run as the Hays Larks erase a six-run deficit and beat Valley Center 9-8 Tuesday night at Larks Park.
The Larks (18-4) trailed 8-2 after 5 1/2 innings but scored a run in the sixth then five in the eighth.
Wyatt Divis’ bases loaded double scored Brook Brannon, Hernan Yanez and Drake Angeron pulled the Larks within a run then Justin Lee tied it with an RBI single.
Tommy Garcia (3-0) pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the win as the Larks pick up their third four-game series sweep of the season.
Hays is off Wednesday and Thursday before opening a big four-game series with KCLB Jayhawk West Division rival Liberal Friday.
