Fundraiser for Longtime Ellis Resident this Weekend

A special fundraiser to help pay medical costs for Longtime Ellis resident Celeste Johnson will be held this weekend in Ellis.  Johnson needs a kidney transplant.

The Full Schedule  of  events includes

JUNE 29th

Noon to 1:00 pm Registration for the motorcycle benefit run at the Ellis Knights of Columbus. Riders are encouraged to park in the Ellis Medical Center parking lot and join us for the luncheon of pulled pork sandwhiches, homemade salads and wonderful desserts. Lunch is only $9 for adults

1:00 pm All are invited to join Celeste for lunch and BINGO at the Ellis Knights of Columbus. COST: Lunch with BINGO (additional cards can be purchased) $20. Lunch without BINGO Adult $9 Children 10 yrs or younger $5 Under 3 free. (A cakewalk will be held during the afternoon festivities)

4:00pm-7:00pm Bridal show open house @ Ellis Baptist Church. Come try on, buy and take home some gorgeous formal and bridal dresses. Reasonable prices. Check out the gallery for some samples. 107 W 9th St, Ellis, KS

9:00pm to Midnight Wrap up the night dancing to “SISTER WHISKEY” at the Ellis Knights of Columbus, offering 70s and 80s rock n roll along with some country music to set your feet a’tapping. Cost: Free will donation. Alcoholic beverages will be available at the bar for additional fee.

June 30th

8:00 am Preregistered 5K Color explosion runners pick up their packets. (Registration is open until June 28th. Late registration will be an additional $5) Extra color packets and shirts can be purchased at registration

8:00 am to 2:00 pm Pancake breakfast with Chris Cakes of Wichita. Cost: $9 for adults $5 for children Under 3 free

9:00 am 5K Color Explosion Run

2:00 pm Silent and Oral Auction at the Knights of Columbus. The wonderful area merchants and citizens have donated fantastic items for the auction. These pieces may be seen and silent auction items bid on at Equity Bank from June 10-28. Unique items already received range from original artwork, signed K-State basketball, furniture, jewelry, gift certificates and tickets to several events. We will also be auctioning off a UBERTI Frisco .45lc and UBERTI silver barrel .22 donated by Rusty Smith at Hays Gold and Coin in Hays, KS.

2:00 pm Gun raffle for a DPMS RFA 3.2223 COST: $10 a ticket or 3 for $25

After battling the autoimmune disorder lupus for years, Johnson entered end stage renal failure in 2008.  She’s been undergoing dialysis in Hays since then.

Johnson was at the top of the transplant list a year ago but the Via Christi hospital in Wichita suspended its program last July following the deaths of four transplant patients.

“Johnson  is currently  third on the kidney transplant list at K-U Medical Center in Kansas City.
