Harvest in most of Ellis County is winding down after a busy weekend of cutting. The Midland Marketing elevators in downtown Hays and Yocemento were quieter

on Sunday evening than they had been the over the past week. Their Toulon elevator told Hays Post that Sunday was slow but they had received 550-600,000 bushels of wheat thus far. The Yocemento elevator reported receiving approximately 45,000 bushels on Saturday and another 25,000 on Sunday. They expect to add another 25,000 today and that harvest will be wrapped up by the end of the week.
In Ellis, Golden Belt told Hays Post they took in 160,000 bushels at their elevators over the weekend. The wheat is dry and yields are from 20-35 bushels an acre. They believe harvest is 90-95% complete.
In Trego County, Caleb with Cargill told Hays Post that they took in approximately 200,000 bushels on Saturday and another 100-150,000 on Sunday at their elevator in WaKeeney and another almost 50,000 bushels in Ogallah “There is still a lot of cutting to do in the northern part of the county,” he said.
“The yields are better than what many of us expected. There are some low numbers but we continue to see a 30-50 bushel an acre average. We’ll also have another train to load in here on Monday evening.”
