One night after scoring 18 runs on 19 hits, the Hays Larks are held to just two runs on seven hits as they fall to El Dorado 4-2 Wednesday night at McDonald Park in El Dorado. The win pulls the Broncos (20-12, 16-11 Jayhawk League) back within a game of the first-place Larks (23-9, 16-9) in the Jayhawk League standings.
The Broncos did most of their damage in the third, scoring three runs on five hits. The Broncos used four straight singles off Larks starter Jason Zgardowski to grab a 2-0 lead. They would get a two-out single to drive in the third run.
The Larks scored in the sixth on a Jake Placzek single but left the bases loaded. Down 4-1, they added another run in the eighth on a Clayton Garland single.
Zgardowski (3-3) takes the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out one over five innings. Dalton Viner made his return to the team and allowed the other run on one hit in 1 2/3 innings.
The teams wrap up the three-game series Thursday night. The Larks then return home to face Liberal on Saturday.
