The 400 or so young swimmers competing Saturday in this weekend’s meet in Hays were especially careful to stay hydrated as the temperature climbed to 109 degrees.
Day two won’t be nearly as hot with the forecast calling for a much cooler high of about 82 degrees.
The Hays Hurricanes are hosting the Western Kansas Swim Club Combined Championship Swim Meet at the Hays Aquatic Park.
Competition resumed at 9:30 Sunday morning. HAP is open to the public, although the swim lanes are closed for the meet.
Nearly 400 athletes from 13 teams – traveling from Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, are participating in the meet.
