Through Wednesday of this week, the City of Hays Fire Department will be conducting hands-on-training in the rescue of unconscious persons from burning buildings. This training is being conducted from 9 AM to noon each day using a house scheduled for demolition at 415 West 4th Street. This training will focus on developing the teamwork needed by first arriving firefighters to remove an unconscious adult from a basement, first floor or second floor of a burning building using both stairs and ladders, doors and windows.
To simulate the work of rescuing an unconscious person, the firefighters will be using a special 150-pound rescue mannequin. This training does not involve actual burning of the structure.
The Fire Department extends special thanks to Mr. Dan Meckenstock for allowing his building to be used for this training prior to demolition.
