Power to businesses adjacent to 116 East 11th is being restored this morning.

Hays Fire Department responded to a request for hazardous materials investigation early Thursday morning.

City trash crews had observed a transformer leaking.  Mike Morley, Midwest Energy Corporate Communications Manager told Hays Post, “we don’t know what caused the transformer to fail but we are working to replace it. ” Midwest Energy crews arrived before 5:30 a.m. and while some businesses downtown have been without power this morning, it should be restored soon.

Hays Fire Department was able to leave the scene before 6 a.m.
