Local Establishment Featured in Kansas! Magazine

Gella’s Diner & Lb. Brewing Co received an acclaimed review in the Fall 2013 issue of Kansas! Magazine.Gellas square

The editors elected to lead the feature encompassing 20 restaurants with a two-page spread on Hays’ original microbrewery and restaurant.  Editor Katy Ibsen relays Gella’s Diner & Lb. Brewing Co.s award winning beers as possibly Kansas’ best-kept secret.

According to the article, a panel of hand-selected Kansas editors narrowed the list of state restaurants down before submitting to their readership to vote.  The top 20 restaurants from across the state range in categories from burgers and barbecue to Asian cuisine and artisan breads.

Front Of House and Events Manager Brendan Arnold told Hays Post that from what his staff told him, an editor from the magazine was probably at the brewery last year.  He ate, sampled some beer, had a good time and left.  The article in Kansas! Magazine is the third non-local publication in the past 6 weeks to feature the local establishment.

Gella’s representative Kelli Hansen says “We’re honored to be part of the 20 restaurants chosen. To be chosen by readers as one of the state’s best, lends testimony that we must be doing things right. And, for the article to release this week as we mark our eighth year in operation, makes it even more special.”

Gella’s Diner and Lb. Brewing Co. opened in 2005 occupying four renovated storefronts in downtown Hays as part of the Chestnut Street District, Hays’ downtown revitalization project.  The microbrewery and restaurant was the collaboration of brew master Gerald Wyman, designer Chuck Comeau and 56 local investors.  Since opening, the restaurant has been featured on BonAppetit.com and the brewery has earned three gold medals, one silver medal and three bronze medals from the Great American Beer Festival and one Gold World Beer Cup.
