8:30 a.m. A 31-year-old Abilene woman was killed late Sunday afternoon after she had pulled the SUV she was driving onto the shoulder of the road with a flat tire
on Interstate 70 about seven miles east of the K-177 junction in Riley County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Sandra Coleman was struck by a pickup truck driven by 38-year-old Daniel Nitchman of St. Robert Missouri.
Nitchman had fallen asleep and the pickup drifted off the road striking Coleman who was standing in the ditch. Nitchman was not injured.
The accident occurred on the westbound side of the interstate.
5 a.m. The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash on I-70, 7 miles east of the 177 Junction in Riley County on Sunday. The KHP says that a vehicle was parked on north shoulder of I-70 Westbound, due to a tire with separated tread.
The driver of had exited the vehicle and was standing in the north ditch next to the vehicle.
Another vehicle was also Westbound and the driver fell asleep causing the vehicle to drift off the road into the north ditch and it hit the man with the flat tire.
