New Store in Town

Chinese Grocery SignHays will soon have a new grocery store on Main St, but this isn’t the Mom and Pop General Store you’re used to.

The new store will be a Chinese Grocery Store.  Owner Don Hao told Hays Post that he is opening the store to cater towards Asian students in the community.

“We sell produce and [items] that people can not get from the local supermarket.  Asian foods like Japanese, Korean and Chinese…”

He said that currently, people wishing to purchase Asian cooking items such as spices, sauces, and kitchenware have to travel 2 to 3 hours.  He hopes that opening this store will meet a need he sees in the community, especially in the students that have traveled from Asia to attend school in Hays.

He estimates that his store will employ around 5 people, and while he’s currently getting shelves stocked and computer systems running, he’s confident that he’ll be able to open in a couple weeks.  The store is located in the building that used to house Hamm’s True Value on Main St.
