Beginning Thursday, October 24, the Utilities Department will be installing a water line in the 700 block of East 6th Street. This is part of the City of Hays water line upgrade project. The upgrade will consist of installing a water line 200 feet east of Riley Street. Traffic control devices will be in place to direct the traveling public.
Hays Utilities Director Bernie Kitten told Hays Post that the plan is to put in a temporary bypass for customers running off that section of the line, and he believes there shouldn’t be any noticeable impact for those consumers while work is being completed.
While this is part of the City of Hays water line upgrade project, this upgrade is not part of the bids that will be discussed tomorrow night by the Hays City Commission. Kitten says that this section of line is “messing with the fire hydrant flow.” For this reason (and because they have the necessary pieces), the city will complete the job in-house rather than have the work done by a third party.
The plan is for the upgrade to be completed in approximately 10 days.
