SWIPE Out Hunger

SWIPE Out HungerThe Global Leadership Project at Fort Hays State University will host the third annual Swipe Out Hunger event this Saturday from 12-3 p.m.

Swipe Out Hunger is a statewide bulk food-packaging event among higher education institutions in Kansas.

FHSU will package 50,000 meals for starving people in Rwanda, Africa as well as to be used domestically. Brenna Johnson is this year’s Co-Student Coordinator for the Global Leadership Project and she said they will get teams together and they will put rice, beans and soy into the meals and box them to be shipped overseas.

Johnson said, “It’s a really neat opportunity for people to actually make an impact on world hunger.”

The group will send 30,000 meals to Africa and 20,000 will be used locally.

Johnson said the meals can be used, “for tragedies that happen or for international students who have a hard time affording food.” The first year the group packaged 30,000 meals, last year they packaged 100,000 meals.

The event will be at Forsyth Library at Fort Hays State University.
