No. 17 Fort Hays State University drew, 0-0, with No. 25 Northeastern State in Hays, Kan. Thursday’s contest was a rematch of a tie earlier this season.
Ranked No. 2 in the Central Region, the Tigers (9-2-2, 4-1-2 MIAA) struggled to find rhythm on offense for much of the game, but strong defensive play fought off 12 shots by NSU (7-2-4, 4-1-2 MIAA). The RiverHawks are No. 3 in the Central Region.
After firing just one shot in the first half, FHSU nearly broke the stalemate in the 58th minute. Michael Cole passed the ball into a cluttered box, finding Daniel Peralta, who nearly put it past a diving Eric Shephard.
In the first overtime, both squads took two shots, though none were on goal. Fort Hays State would take the only shot in the second overtime period – an attempt by Tanner Brock that went wide right.
Kent Freund played the entire 110 minutes, saving three shots.
FHSU hosts Harding on Saturday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day, where Ricardo Yeverino and Peralta will be honored prior the game.
