K-State’s Walker Named Big 12 Player of the Week

MANHATTAN, Kan.Kansas State sophomore linebacker Tre Walker has been named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Wildcats’ 28-24 win at Miami, the conference office announced Monday.

The award for Walker was the first of his career and also the first for a Wildcat player this season, while the last K-State defensive player to earn weekly honors from the league was Courtney Herndon against Montana State in 2008.

Against Miami, Walker made four of the Wildcats’ last seven tackles inside the K-State 13-yard line during the Hurricanes’ final drive, including the final three and the goal line stop on quarterback Jacory Harris on fourth and goal to seal the victory. He also finished the game with eight total tackles.

Following a season in which he was named a Freshman All-American by Phil Steele, Walker is currently third on the team in tackles with 16, highlighted by the stellar finish last week against Miami.
