FHSU Men’s Golf Rallies For 4th Place Finish At SBU Invite

The Fort Hays State men’s golf team moved up two spots on the second day of the Southwest Baptist Invitational to finish fourth. After shooting 303 as a team in the first round, the Tigers improved four strokes on day two for a 299. Eleven teams competed in the tournament at the Silo Ridge Country Club in Bolivar, Mo. The Tigers finished third out of nine MIAA teams competing in the event.

Trey Herman made a big push on day two of the tournament, shooting a 3-under par 69 to back up an opening round of 77. His two-over par total of 146 tied for 12th. Right behind him was teammate Kevin Quinley, who shot rounds of 74 and 73 for a 3-over par total of 147. He tied for 14th.

Markus Hilger struggled on day two with an 82 after an opening round 73, but still finished as the third-best individual for FHSU with a total of 155. He tied for 31st. Chris Mann and Tom O’Keeffe contributed to the team score on the second day. Mann shot rounds of 79 and 78 for a total of 157, tying for 35th. O’Keeffe shot rounds of 81 and 79 for a 160 total, tying for 43rd.

FHSU finished 30 shots back of tournament champion Central Missouri, which shot 572 as a team. The Mules won by five strokes over Lindenwood University, a future MIAA opponent. Justin Burns of Central Baptist won the tournament as an individual, shooting rounds of 71 and 68 for a 5-under par total of 139.
