At Tuesday’s meeting of the Hays USD 489 Board of Education, Superintendent Dean Katt presented school board members with a progress report on this year’s SMART Goals.
The “SMART Goals” are written within action plans so current policies, as well as policy changes, within the district can be tracked.
Katt said the action plans are on track, and SMART goals will continue to be revisited throughout the year.
SMART is an acronym that stands for five desired qualities of a goal — specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely.
In other action Tuesday, the board discussed adopting Roberts Rules of Order as its guiding tool for conducting meetings.
Greg Scwartz, board president, said the rules look “cumbersome” and “lengthy” but are used by many boards and are “fairly simple” to follow.
Adoption of the rules will not drastically change how the board operates, he said, but will ensure board policies are being followed through a specific process.
