WAKEENEY — City council members recently voted to keep the town’s current health care insurance for employees. City Administrator Hardy Howard reported that the policy coverage does comply with the new Affordable Care Act.

RECORD OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE GOVERNING BODY 17 DECEMBER 2013
The Governing Body of the City of WaKeeney, Kansas met in a regular session at City Hall 408 Russell Ave at 7:00 PM with the Mayor presiding and the following members present:
Mayor Kenneth Roy and Council Members Mary Jo Clevenger, Irene Dirks, Troy Leiker, Lynelle Shubert, and Allen Weigel
BEING ABSENT: None
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as written, printed and distributed.
GUESTS: Allen Goff, Brittany Brock, Tyler Lowry, Nicole Hendrix, Crystal Day, Nick Wynn, Kat Muench, Candy Herzog, Sonya Stanton, Dillon Schmidt, Charlie Knoll, Jody Zeman, Terry Eberle, and Janelle Miller
Jody Zeman, Director Trego County Economic Development updated the Governing Body on work at the 24/7 Travel Plaza.
CHIEF OF POLICE: Terry Eberle provided his monthly departmental report. The Chief of Police discussed with the City Council the need to update weapons and holsters for the officers.
CITY ADMINISTRATOR: City Administrator Hardy Howard presented to the Governing Body renewal rates for the city’s existing group health insurance plan. Due to recent changes at the federal level with health care reform the city is able to keep their existing plan for 2014. After a review of the rates that decreased slightly, Mary Jo Clevenger motioned to approve the renewal for 2014. Irene Dirks seconded. Motion carried.
The City Administrator discussed with the City Council business hours during the holiday season. The City Office will be closed at noon on Christmas Eve and open all day on New Year’s Eve.
Officials at the Kansas Department of Transportation have been contacted to evaluate and provide recommendations concerning pedestrian safety while crossing US Highway 283 at Main Street and also at Russell Avenue at Trego Community High School.
