The TMP Monarchs needed overtime on Thursday to take out the Goodland Cowboys 54-48 in the consolation semifinals at the Hillsboro Trojan Classic. TMP trailed by two at halftime and held a slim, 34-33, lead heading into the fourth quarter. That’s when both offenses struggled. The game was tied at 38 points apiece heading into overtime.
In the extra period the Monarch offense woke up scoring 16 points to secure the win. Several key plays down the stretch including a corner 3-pointer from Max Megaffin that stretched a one-point lead to four in the overtime.
Jordan Gottschalk led TMP with 13 points while Gage Ihrig poured in 24 to pace the Cowboys. TMP is now five and six on the season and will face Riley County in the fifth-place game at 1pm on Saturday.
