Hays Mayor Barb Wasinger taps the keg and pours the first beer Friday morning to officially open the 39th annual Hays Volga German Oktoberfest.  Three Fort Hays State University exchange students from Germany joined Wasinger, FHSU President Ed Hammond, and Oktoberfest Chairman Eleanor Schippers, Victoria, for the opening ceremony in Frontier Park.

Oktoberfest is a traditional German after-harvest celebration.  In Hays it also kicks off the FHSU Homecoming weekend.
