Hays High Trounces Dodge City 56-14

Hays High didn’t forget to “bring the storm” Friday night in Dodge City. The Indians racked up 528 total yards on offense, and had three 100+ yd rushers in a 56-14 rout in Dodge City Friday night.

Hays High won the toss and deferred to the second half, but Dodge City elected to take the wind and kick off to start the game.  Hays High responded by taking the first drive 80 yards in four plays and scored on a 56 yard David Cardinal run.  After a Red Demon punt and another Hays touchdown, Hays High would recover two consecutive short kickoffs and quickly push the score to 28-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Hays would score 42 consecutive points to start the game, until Parker Davis scored on a three yard run late in the second quarter.  By half time Hays High racked up 450 yards of offense and quickly pushed the lead to 56-6 mid way through the third quarter and the continuous clock took care of rest the game.

David Cardinal rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Mark Mathis rushed for 131 yds on 7 carries and scored two touchdowns. Quarterback Austin Unrein added 112 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns. He also threw for a score.  Ten players total rushed the ball for Hays High who moves to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in conference.  Dodge City drops to 3-3 and 1-2 in the WAC.

Next week hays takes on 3-2 Great Bend in the first round of districts.  The Panthers are 3-0 in conference play, Hays is 2-1 in the league with Garden City also 2-1 in the conference.

In other action Great Bend beat Liberal and Garden City’s game with Wichita East was canceled to due to inclimate weather and will not be rescheduled.
