Men’s Golf Slips To Second Place Finish At Park Invitational

The Fort Hays State men’s golf team could not hold onto its tournament lead on the second day of competition at the Park University Invitational in Parkville, Mo. The Tigers led by five strokes after an opening round team score of 289, but a 300 on the second day coupled by a 282 from Grand View University allowed GVU to take the team title by 13 strokes. The tournament was held at The Deuce at the National Golf Course, a par-70 layout.

Also unable to hold onto his first round lead was Tom O’Keeffe, who shot a 5-over par 75 on the second day after a first round 2-under par 68. Yousaf Khan of Grand View posted the lowest score of the tournament on the second day with a 5-under par 65, coming from nine strokes down to clip O’Keeffe by one stroke overall after a first day 77. Aaron Ahrendsen of Grand View tied O’Keeffe for second with rounds of 70 and 73.

Trey Herman was right behind O’Keeffe and Ahrendsen, shooting a 4-over par total of 144 for the tournament after rounds of 71 and 73. Kevin Quinley had a rough second day, shooting 80 after a first round 73. He tied for 15th, but did not figure into the team score on Tuesday.

Markus Hilger and Austin Maxwell each contributed to the team score in the second round. Hilger shot 77 for the second straight day to finish 18th at 154, and Maxwell was just one stroke back of Hilger overall after rounds of 80 and 75. He tied for 19th.

Individuals competing in the tournament from Fort Hays State included Jacob Hoover and Adam Gorjiyan. Hoover shot rounds of 78 and 84 to tie for 27th. Gorjiyan shot rounds of 87 and 84 for 44th.

The Tigers are now finished with the fall season and resume action in the spring.
