Phillipsburg 70, TMP 43
The Phillipsburg Lady Panthers started Tuesday’s 3A Sub-State opener against TMP on a six to nothing run and didn’t look back as they went on to the 70-43 victory. TMP trailed by as many as 11 in the first quarter but slowly closed the gap and cut the Lady Panther lead to five after an early second quarter bucket. Phillipsburg would push the lead to 13 midway through the second and the Lady Monarchs responded again, cutting the lead to seven at 32-25.
Phillipsburg pushed back with two quick buckets in the final 30 seconds of the first half to stretch the lead to double digits once again, 36-25. The Lady Panthers continued their run at the start of the third quarter with the first six points and TMP was not able to recover. Megan Koenigsman led TMP with 20 points and Madyson Koerner chipped in with 12. TMP finishes their season at seven and 14. Phillipsburg improves to 16 and five and will take on Lyons in the semifinals on Friday. The winner of that game will face the winner of Ellsworth and Minneapolis on Saturday for the sub-state title.
