The Ellis County Commission has scheduled a special meeting later this month for a public hearing on a Community Improvement District for a truck dealership north of Interstate 70 at exit 157.
Chris Sook, attorney for BBJ LLC, said at the meeting his client has finalized the purchase of 21 acres near the junction of 55th Street and 230th Avenue and is ready to take the next step in developing the Doonan Peterbuilt dealership.
According to Sook, the sales tax increase would only apply to goods and services sold at the 5 acres the dealership would occupy in the northeast quadrant of the property.
The CID proposal is for a 2 percent sales tax for up to 22 years, which would be used to help fund improvements and infrastructure to the property. According to the petition, improvements include landscaping, lighting, construction of sidewalks and ADA accessibility.
Estimated cost of the improvements to the district is $3.1 million.
The special meeting is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. March 20 at the Ellis County Courthouse. Sook encouraged the public and the commissioners to ask questions about the project.
