WASHINGTON – The United States Supreme Court continues its preparations to hear oral arguments regarding implementation of the Obamacare HHS mandate. Family-owned companies and their employees from across the country will fight for their religious liberties this week in an attempt to address one of the gravest threats to the 1st Amendment in recent generations. Representative Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) released the following statement:
“I issue a strong challenge to Chief Justice Roberts to honor his Catholic roots and convictions. Given he was the deciding vote in favor of the constitutionality of ObamaCare, Roberts bears a particular burden to protect the religious liberties of employers and their employees from the excesses of his very own constitutional creation. As noted in the attached video, I predicted in 2012 that the Chief Justice would find himself exactly in this very position – because the HHS Mandate is essentially a Religion Tax and would come before this Court. As a fellow Catholic, I hope that Justice Roberts would choose to protect the first principle of the 1st Amendment – the hallowed freedom of conscience.
The families and companies involved in this case, including Hobby Lobby and Conestoga, are fighting to protect their religious and faith values, as guaranteed in the 1st Amendment. I stand with them against President Obama, Secretary Sebelius, and their blatant attacks on Religious Liberty.”
