New mowers approved for WaKeeney city parks

wakeeney logoWAKEENEY — The WaKeeney Parks Department will soon have two new mowers following approval of two bids by city council members during their meeting March 18.

Bids were also approved for replacement of windows, doors and the gutter on the city shop building.

RECORD OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE GOVERNING BODY 18 MARCH 2014

The Governing Body of the City of WaKeeney, Kansas met in a regular session at City Hall 408  Russell Ave at 7:00 PM with the Mayor presiding and the following members present:   Mayor Kenneth Roy and Council Members Mary Jo Clevenger, Troy Leiker, Lynelle Shubert, and BEING ABSENT: Irene Dirks

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as written, printed and distributed.

GUESTS: Terry Eberle, Macy Mattheyer, Devon Ghumm, Audra Berquist, Mariah Brungardt, Lincoln Brungardt, Brandy Fritts, Derek Schmidt, Kat Muench, Candy Herzog, and Janelle Miller

CHIEF OF POLICE: Terry Eberle provided his monthly departmental report.

CITY ADMINISTRATOR: City Administrator Hardy Howard presented an estimate from Deines Construction for the replacement of windows, doors, and gutter on the shop portion of the city building.  After reviewing the information, Troy Leiker motioned to approve the work by Deines Construction estimated at $62,200. Mary Jo Clevenger seconded. Motion carried.

Two quotes were reviewed by the Governing Body for the purchase of mowers for the parks department. After reviewing the two quotes from Deines Manufacturing and Day Motorsports, Mary Jo Clevenger motioned to approve the purchase of a D-2360HT Marty-J from Deines Manufacturing and a Gravely ZTHD-48 from Day Motorsports and to sell the 2001 D1840 Marty-J, the 2005 DD2060HT Marty, and the 2007 Gravely ZT2348XL at the FFA benefit auction in April 2014. Lynelle Shubert seconded. Motion carried.

The City Administrator discussed with the City Council changing several water main valves in the northeast section of the city. The 2013 water quality report was reviewed by the Governing Body.

A quote from Venture Corporation for cold mix asphalt was reviewed by the City Council. A motion was made by Allen Weigel to approve the purchase of 500 tons of cold mix from Venture Corp. Mary Jo Clevenger seconded. Motion carried.

The Governing Body reviewed information on a proposed legislative bill that would combine city and school board elections with state and national elections in the fall.

No further business appearing, the meeting was adjourned.
