Rain falls, but only amounts to a tenth of an inch in Hays

Predictions of rain came true Monday — but the precipitation was disappointing for a region parched by a persistent drought.

The spring front dropped a scant tenth of an inch of rain on Hays, according to data from the Kansas State Agricultural Research Center, 1232 240th Ave.

In April, the skies have offered up a mere .23 inches of rain. More than three months into 2014 and total moisture amounts to just less than 1.5 inches.

The drought has caused the city of Hays to enter into a water warning, which puts into place a series of water-use restrictions designed to conserve the waning water supply.
