OTTAWA, Kan. (AP) — Ottawa University, a liberal arts college, will begin offering an engineering degree for the first time this fall.
The Bachelor of Science in Engineering program will combine the fundamentals engineering with topics such as writing and public speaking.
A program founder, Dennis Tyner, says the degree’s curriculum is designed to help engineers develop the skills to work with other people. He says focusing on communication will make Ottawa University engineering graduates more employable.
The Lawrence Journal-World reports that the program will not include some of the in-depth technical education required in other engineering schools, to make room for the communications components.
