The Hays High baseball team split their doubleheader with Junction City at the Hays High Field Tuesday. The Indians score eight in the third inning and win the first game 8-2. They let a late one-run lead slip away in the second contest and fall 4-3 in eight innings.

Cole Schumacher struck out six, walking none for the win in game one. He along with Kade Parker and Marcus Altman all had two hits in the game. Dalton Stout hit a two-run homer and Connor Rule drove in two with a double in the eight-run third.

Lane Downing was the tough luck loser in the second contest, going all eight innings and allowing four unearned runs on four hits while striking out six and walking just one. Trent Henningson’s solo homer to lead off the sixth inning put the Indians up 3-2, but the Bluejays score a run in the top of the seventh on a two-out throwing error to tie the game. They score an unearned run on a two-out double in the eighth to take the lead. All four of Junction City’s runs were unearned.

Hays High is now 3-3 on the season. They are back in action Thursday at Salina South.
